NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION THAT IS FREE.
RELEASE IN PRESS.
SUSPENSION OF FURTHER COLLATION OF RESULTS FROM GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION IN THE STATES OF ABIA AND ENUGU.
The Commission met today, March 20, 2023, and discussed the results of the nationwide governorship and state assembly elections that were held on March 18, 2023. Following the meeting, the Commission decided to immediately halt further collation of the governorship election results in some areas of the states of Abia and Enugu.
It will be recalled that on March 19, 2023, thugs broke into our office in the Obingwa Local Government Area and held our employee’s hostage while the results from the Local Government Area were being compiled. The results of the governorship election from the two unofficial Local Government Areas of Nsukka and Nkanu East should also be reviewed, according to reports from Enugu State.
Accordingly, the Commission hereby suspends the collation of results in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and the two uncollected Local Government Areas of Enugu State. Before the process is finished, a review will be conducted.
We appeal for the understanding and patience of voters, parties and candidates in the affected States.
Barr. Fabius Okoye.
Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee and national commissioner.
