Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has given insight into his discussions with his populace in light of the controversy surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign.
In the context of his re-election win over Teslim Folarin of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 256,685 votes to Makinde’s 563,756 votes, Makinde made the disclosure on Saturday.
Bola Tinubu of the APC defeated PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar in Oyo during the presidential election on February 25 and was later proclaimed the winner.
Following Makinde’s refusal to back Atiku, a northerner, on the PDP’s zoning principles, Tinubu won the state.
Later, rumors that the governor of Oyo was endorsing southerner Tinubu’s campaign across party lines were fueled by his association with four other disgruntled governors in the G5, a group known within the party.
Nevertheless, the governor refuted the rumors on Sunday during a live appearance on Channels Television’s The 2023 Verdict.

He claims that people will actually make their decisions.

The governor claimed that the residents of Oyo State were “quite sophisticated,” adding that “that is behind us now” and that they could not be led astray.
Earlier, Makinde informed Nigerians that a president-elect had emerged and urged them to “support” and “work with” him to improve the nation.
He emphasized that the G5’s unrest did not prioritize the governors’ individual careers as a top priority.
“We believed that we would fight for what is fair, what is right for this nation, and what is right for our party. Because rotation and zoning of governmental and party offices are present and a part of the PDP’s constitution, we stated that we would prefer to see a PDP that will uphold its own rules.
