Osas Aganmwonyi, a 28-year-old armed robbery suspect, claimed that he joined a gang in order to raise money for his children’s food and school expenses.
Four suspects, including Aganmwonyi, were detained by the police in connection with an alleged armed robbery that took place in Edo State while wearing a military uniform.
Aganmwonyi claimed in a Daily Trust interview that he joined the gang because of hardships following the loss of his job.
He spoke.
I’ve never committed a robbery before. I am a painter and tiler, but I am unemployed, and I need money to support my family.
“I have three kids. My job and my wife both passed away. I’m unable to support them financially. They require food, and I must cover their school expenses.
No one is available to help me, I’m afraid. Therefore, I engaged in robbery in order to educate my kids and provide for their needs. “.
Moreover, he added.
“I wasn’t in this circumstance before. I owned a car, some land, and other things. I lost everything, and I have no idea what occurred. For my children to begin living better lives, I simply had to look for money.
“However, I now realize that what I did was not the best for my circumstances. I blame myself for everything and I’m not happy that my face is going viral in a negative situation. It brings my family into disrepute. “.
