Fake identity cards for security personnel working election duty have drawn the ire of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Festus Okoye, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, announced the disclosure in a statement on Friday.
He claimed that the security agencies, not INEC, were in charge of issuing identity cards for election-related security personnel.
He stated that anyone found in possession of a fake identification card that was allegedly issued by the electoral umpire for security personnel is subject to arrest and prosecution.
The electoral body also urged the general public to alert the appropriate security agencies about anyone carrying such a security identity card.

“The Complete Access” inscription is boldly written in red at the bottom of an identity card for security personnel that bears the name and logo of the INEC.
“We want to be clear that the identity card was not created by the commission.
“Anyone working illegally can only be carrying an identity card that the commission is alleged to have issued for security personnel. Such a person is subject to detention and legal action.
The public is warned about this evil deed being committed by some misguided elements and is urged to report any such individuals to the security agencies.
