A 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Ogun State, was recently opened when some suspected thieves broke in and stole items worth millions of Naira.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo officially opened the hospital on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
The State Security Network, also known as the Amotekun Corps, members arrested three of the crime’s suspects.
The suspects allegedly stole six 43-inch Hisense TV sets, two 65-inch Bruhm TV sets, three Bruhm refrigerators, one Midea refrigerator, and three Lontor rechargeable standing fans, all worth a combined N3 million, according to the state commandant of Amotekun, David Akinremi, who confirmed the arrest to journalists in Abeokuta on Friday, March 17, 2023.
Akinremi claimed that Ogunjembola Kehinde, the main suspect, organized his gang to rob the hospital.
He claimed that Ogunjembola was detained in response to a complaint of burglary and theft made by one Kehinde Banjoko, who claimed that unidentified individuals broke into her home while she was away in Lagos and stole a number of household items, including generating sets, gas cylinders, standing fans, mattresses, and rugs, among other things, valued at about N500,000.
“On the basis of actionable intelligence, the primary suspect was apprehended, and during questioning, he confessed to committing the alleged crime alongside a second suspect who is currently at large. All the items taken from one Lawal Aliu, the criminal receiver, were recovered as a result of his admission, according to Akinremi.
“While the investigation into the initial complaint was still ongoing, additional information received showed that the same main suspect in this case, Ogunjembola Kehinde and his criminal gang were accountable for breaking into and stealing some electronic equipment from the recently opened 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital, Iperu.
“When the suspect was confronted with this, he also admitted committing the crime with his co-accused in the initial case of robbery and theft reported by Banjoko Kehinde.
Akinremi continued, “Three suspects have so far been detained in connection with this case, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other criminal receivers mentioned by the suspects in order to reclaim items allegedly sold to them.
