To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the founding of the state, all of the ethnic groups from Akwa Ibom State who had previously resided in areas of Cross River State gathered in Calabar, the state’s capital, for a carnival procession.
They arrived in Cross River State in huge numbers and state colors under the leadership of Nka Afid Ndito Akwa Ibom.
They rolled out drums and rode on long, decorated trucks while blaring songs and watching their young men and ladies do skillful dancing moves.
Other people’s cultures were highlighted, and there were traditional masquerade performances.
Captain Itoro Unung, the group’s chairman, stated that the organization has over a million members in the state and was established more than 26 years ago to mobilize and bring together the ethnic nationalities of Akwa Ibom State in Cross River and abroad.
“With over two million members, we are well-positioned to celebrate the traditions and values of the Akwa Ibom State and give value to its celebration.
“We have decided to make this program honoring the founding of our state our yearly program.
“We want to strengthen the state and bring the Akwa Ibom people together.
“I want to invite Akwa Ibomites to join us in celebrating a magnificent state,” he said. “We are distributing this information to all Akwa Ibomites to know that it is a promised country.”
He claims that the state’s successive administrations have worked to leave behind structural and developmental legacies that have contributed to the state’s current status as a hub of tourist attractions.
He praised the outgoing governor, Udom Emmanuel, for his accomplishments and expressed confidence that his replacement will continue in his good work.
