The government of Zamfara State has refuted the assertion that it diverted some of the funds intended for the Conditional Cash Transfer program.

The charges, according to the administration, were made by some dishonest individuals who wanted to use social media to harm Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle’s reputation and image.

This was stated in a news release that Hon. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, the State’s information commissioner, signed.

“The general public should dismiss this story since it is completely false.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Conditional Cash Transfer is an ongoing World Bank and Federal Government program intended to reduce poverty and enhance the economic security of the populace.

“Therefore, to imply that the State Government participates in efforts to mitigate the impact of stricken poverty on its population is an utter mischief.

“All beneficiaries are expected to get a total payment of between 70,000 and 90,000 naira, depending on how long they wait to become eligible. Therefore, payees shouldn’t accept any unlawful payments from anyone.

“Since social media has evolved into the quickest and least expensive method of disseminating rumors and trouble in the neighborhood, it is important to call attention to the general public and ask them to exercise some patience and subject stories they hear or see through social media to some level of scrutiny and authentication to determine their veracity.

The long arm of the law will soon catch up with them, he said, adding that while the government is doing everything it can to stop harmful posts on social media, everyone involved in such bad deeds is urged to stop right away.
