Over the weekend, the national body of NANS convened in Akure, the seat of Ondo State, and denounced the manner the federal government was treating the lecturers who were on strike as well as education in general.

Following a seven-month deadlock between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the National Association of Nigerian Students, or NANS, has vowed to cease operations at all international airports in the nation.

Over the weekend, the national body of NANS convened in Akure, the seat of Ondo State, and denounced the manner the federal government was treating the lecturers who were on strike as well as education in general.

Students agreed to stop international travel starting on September 19, 2022 because they believed the four-day closure of highways and expressways was a success, and they wanted the bourgeois and the government to go through the same pain that students had over the previous seven months.

National Task Force on NANS;

ASUU Strike Must End Now During a news conference, the strike’s chairman, Ojo Raymond Olumide, said that students were already weary of appealing with both parties to stop the walkout.

Olumide stated that the airports that would be occupied would remain closed until the strike was called off. “The President Muhammadu Buhari administration must settle the outstanding arrears and the lecturers’ salaries,” he added.

“On Monday, September 19, 2022, we will storm the airspaces to launch a new round of protests under the hashtag #OccupyTheAirports. We want the public to be aware of the suffering that students endure.

“Nigerian students, whose parents built the nation, cannot continue to toil at home with their professors while the few who profit from our sweat and blood send their children abroad to have fun and flex.

“With this declaration, we promise not to beg again. All students will be organized by us to shut down the nation. No Movement! No Education!

NANS approved a vote of no confidence on the ministers of labor and education while chastising Babatunde Raji Fashola, the minister of works, for allegedly commenting on students blocking federal roads.
